Another way of understanding the Qlipoth is by relating it to Frued's concept of the id. The id is comprised of the deepest, guttural regions of the psyche, wherein lie those forgotten and repressed contents of the mind.
In any case, it is said that chaos precedes creation. When the Original Prime Creator initiated the process of materializing our universe, it began with a split into polarity: that of chaos, and that of order. The Qlipoth represents chaos: the dark, fertile foundations upon which our universe was established. We must remember that the positive polarity of order is meaningless without its negative counterpart.
Thus, the Qlipoth is considered to be a separate universe of its own, often called Universe B. It is thought of as the chaotic, underground engine upon which Universe A was built. Universe B emanates the forces of destruction and spiritual darkness which influence our world from beneath. The deeper you go into the Qlipoth, the more you will discover increasingly severe levels of distortion, suffering, and evil. The Qlipoth is often personified as being composed of, or inhabited by, demonic or malevolent entities, who are believed to intentionally hinder connection with the Original Prime Creator. As previously mentioned, some teachings view the Qlipoth as a necessary part of the cosmic order, serving as a contrast to the divine. Chaos is necessary for change to occur. Order and unity, therefore, cannot exist without destruction and division. Both are required to achieve the harmony of existence as we know it.
By facing and overcoming the forces of the Qlipoth, individuals can purify and elevate the sparks of life force trapped within themselves, ultimately restoring balance and harmony in their souls. Indeed, diamonds are formed under pressure. So too can the determined mystic reach enlightenment by way of confronting the Qlipoth.
